Água de Alto

Água de Alto (Portuguese for high water) is a parish in the district of Vila Franca do Campo in the Azores. The population in 2001 is 1,624, its density is 88.1/km² and the area is 18.44 km²/1,844 ha. It is located on a road linking Ponta Delgada, Lagoa and the municipal seat. It is located E of Ponta Delgada and Lagoa and SE of Ribeira Grande. The main industry are agriculture. The Atlantic Ocean lies to the south while the mountains which are mainly covered with laurisilva forests and valleys lie to the north. Farmlands are in low-lying areas.
