Émile Bernard

Émile Bernard (April 28, 1868 - April 16, 1941) was a French painter and writer.

He joined the Atelier Cormon in Paris in 1884 where he experimented with impressionism and pointillism. He worked with such artists as Vincent van Gogh, Paul Gauguin and Paul Cézanne. He theorized a style of painting with bold forms separated by dark contours which became known as cloisonnism. He died in Paris.
