Öland bridge

Öland bridge (Swedish: Ölandsbron) is a bridge connecting Kalmar on mainland Sweden with Färjestaden (Ferry Town) on the island Öland to its east. It is 6,072 metres long, and supported by 156 pillars.

The bridge was inaugurated on September 30, 1972, becoming one of the longest bridge in Europe, and is currently the longest bridge in Sweden. The Oresund Bridge connecting Sweden with Denmark is itself longer, but not the Swedish half of it.

The bridge bulges in the western part in order to create a vertical clearance of 36 metres. A smaller pedestrian/ bicycle wooden replica bridge, approx. 150 meters long, is located a bit to the south of the western start of the bridge, quite visible while driving to Öland.
