Built in 1944 by French actress Michele Morgan, 10050 Cielo Drive was sited on 3 acres (12,000 m²) of land, high above Los Angeles with views of Sunset Boulevard and the Ocean. Built to represent a French country barn, the property included a guesthouse and swimming pool.
Its history of tenants include Lillian Gish, Cary Grant, Henry Fonda, and Dennis Wilson. In 1969 it was occupied by director Roman Polanski and his then wife, actress Sharon Tate. It became infamous following the murders of Sharon Tate, Voytek Frykowski, Abigail Folger, Jay Sebring and Steven Parent there at the hands of the Charles Manson family on August 9, 1969. In later years, rock stars Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson recorded albums there.
It was demolished in 1994 and a huge mansion called the "Villa Bella" has been built on the site.
