• Robert Boyle publishes his work on the properties of air, which includes his discovery, Boyle's law, which describes the inverse relationship between volume and pressure in a gas.

Deaths

• May 29 - Frans van Schooten, Dutch mathematician who is most known for popularizing the analytic geometry of René Descartes (born 1615)
