3D Realms is a computer game developer based in Garland, Texas and founded in July of 1994 as a division of Apogee Software. The company is best known for creating the computer game Duke Nukem 3D, which was released in January, 1996. Following the creation of Duke Nukem 3D, 3D Realms finished up Shadow Warrior for release on May, 1997.

It is now semi-notorious for its upcoming fourth instalment in the Duke Nukem series, Duke Nukem Forever, which is currently 7 - 8 years into development (full scale production started in 1998). As a result of Duke Nukem Forever's long development cycle, 3D Realms has become infamous for stopping unauthorised third parties from using their trademarked characters in modifications for other games, to maintain the protection of their trademarks.

Current products

The latest Duke Nukem, Duke Nukem Forever, will be released, according to the company, "when it's done." The 3D Realms development team was apparently understaffed at the beginning but is now picking up speed on the Duke Nukem Forever project.

The most recent success they were associated with was the Max Payne sequel, Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne, which followed on from the 3D Realms produced original.
