500 krone (Denmark)

The Danish 500 kroner bill (DKK500) is a denomination of Danish currency. Danish nuclear physicist Niels Bohr is currently featured on the front side of the bill, while a knight in armour fighting a dragon is featured on the reverse side. The current design for this bill came into circulation on 24 September 2003.

Design

The front of the 500 kroner banknote has a portrait of Niels Bohr (7 October 1885 to 18 November 1962). Niels Bohr was a major contributer to modern science and was very influential on the development of modern nuclear physics. Niels Bohr won many awards including the Nobel Prize for physics in 1922.

Security Features

The current version of the 500 kroner banknote was designed to be very hard to counterfeit. The upper right corner of the front of the banknote has a hologram that displays the number 500, an atom, and the Roman numeral "D" when tilted at different angles. The hologram cannot be colour copied.

As an additional security feaure, both the front and the reverse side of the banknote have flourescent ink designs that are invisible under normal light. A knight is printed on the front of the bill, while special orange print appears on the reverse side.
