Afzelia is a genus of eight species of flowering trees in the subfamily Caesalpinioideae of the family Fabaceae (legumes). They are native to tropical Africa and Asia. The species are known by the common name "Afzelia". They have also sometimes been mistakenly called "African mahogany", a name that correctly applies to the genus Khaya in the unrelated mahogany family Meliaceae. Afzelias are used primarily for wood, though some species also have medicinal uses.
