The Aguinaldo Shrine is a national shrine of the Philippines, located in Kawit, Cavite. The Philippine flag is raised here by top national officials every Independence Day (June 12) to commermorate the event.
The shrine is the ancestral home of Emilio Aguinaldo, the first president of the Republic of the Philippines. Aguinaldo first declared Philippine independence from Spain in the shrine's balcony on June 12, 1898. It is also the place where the Philippine flag was first unfurled.
