The Ahr is a tributary of the Rhine beginning at a height of approximately 520 meters above sea level in Blankenheim (the Eifel) in Fachwerkhauses to near the Blankenheimer Burg in North Rhine-Westphalia. After few kilometers it reaches Rhineland-Palatinate. Over Schuld , Altenahr , Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler and flowing into the proximity of Remagener of the Kripp , but on the side of Sinzig of about 50 m above sea level into the Rhine. The length is approx. 86 km, of 68 kilometers flows within Rhineland-Palatinate. The Ahr has a resoling downward flow of 0,4 per cent in and from 0,4 in Unterlauf to 0.8 per cent in Oberlauf .
The Ahr as a main river and the Nebenbaeche flows to the Osteifel for the Ahr-Eifel . This watershed is approximately 900 km². Ahr Nebenbaeche flows (from the delta river upward) Harbach (Ahr) , Hellenbach , Bachemer Bach , Leimersdorfer Bach , Liersbach , Vischelbach , Sahrbach , Kesselinger Bach , Armuthsbach , Dreisbach (brook) , Eichenbach , Adenauer Bach , Trierbach und Ahbach .
There were isolated settlements in the Ahr valley at the latest since the Roman times, the Roman mansion was with the Silberberg in Ahrweiler
That changed from the mid-19th century. The development of the settlements, the traffic routes and the agricultural areas in the Ahrtal led to the fact that the riverbed was used.
