Chasers

In the first five books, the Chasers for the Gryffindor Quidditch team are the same three girls -- Angelina Johnson, Alicia Spinnet and Katie Bell. They are apparently very good at Quidditch and popular. Katie is one year older, Angelina and Alicia are two years older than Harry. They appear to be a close-knit group both on and off the field. Harry sometimes notices them sitting together in the Gryffindor common room, talking quietly or working on homework, and when Harry was forming Dumbledore's Army, they came to the initial planning meeting in Hogsmeade together.

Angelina Johnson

Angelina Johnson (born late October, 1977) is a tall black girl with long braided hair, two years older than Harry.

In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, she was among the people who entered their names to the Goblet as possible champions for Hogwarts, but was not selected. In the same book, she was asked by Fred Weasley to the Yule Ball and accepted. They made quite a pair, dancing so energetically together that other couples gave them a wide berth on the dance floor for fear of getting hurt. Lee Jordan also finds her quite attractive, and has apparently been trying to convince her to go out with him for several years, without any success.

After Oliver Wood left Hogwarts, Angelina became Quidditch captain and proved to be at least as demanding of her players as Oliver was. She attributed this to the stress of the job, and said once that she now wished she hadn't been so hard on Oliver when he was captain.

In the films, she is played by Danielle Taylor , who is also sometimes credited as Danielle Tabor.

Alicia Spinnet was on the reserve team the year before Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, but she joined the team the next year. Alicia is most often the chaser who attempts penalty shots for Gryffindor when the other team commits a foul. She is played by Leilah Sutherland in the first film, and Rochelle Douglas in the second.

Katie Bell joined the Gryffindor team in her second year (Harry's first). During Ron Weasley's first Quidditch practice, he accidentally hit Katie in the nose with a Quaffle during a routine passing drill. Fred Weasley tried to give her something to stop the bleeding, but only succeeded in making it worse, and practice eventually had to be called off. She is played by Emily Dale in the films.

Keepers

Oliver Wood

House Gryffindor
Blood 'purity' Unknown
Loyalty Unknown
Film portrayer Sean Biggerstaff
First appearance Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

Oliver Wood is played by Sean Biggerstaff in the film adaptions. Wood was the captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team in the first three books, but he left Hogwarts at the end of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Wood was very determined to win the Quidditch cup and had a reputation for working the team too hard, which he well deserved. He was more concerned with winning than the well-being of his team, doing such things as making them practice in the pouring rain and telling Harry to "get the Snitch or die trying."

When Harry joined the team as the youngest Seeker in a century, he thought the cup was in the bag. Due to unfortunate coincidences, the Gryffindor team failed to win the cup during Harry's first two years: Harry was unconscious in the hospital wing during the final match his first year and Quidditch was cancelled the following year due to the opening of the Chamber of Secrets. The next year, Wood's final at the school, Gryffindor finally won. Wood appeared briefly the following year and explained he'd been taken onto the reserve team for Puddlemere United.

Beaters

Andrew Kirke

Andrew Kirke is a Beater on the Gryffindor Quidditch team in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix with Jack Sloper, replacing Fred and George Weasley on the team.

Jack Sloper

Jack Sloper is a fictional character in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter book series. Much is unknown about him, but what is known is that he is in the house of Gryffindor during the mid 1990s. He was a beater on the Gryffindor Quidditch team from 1995-1996.

Blood 'purity' Unknown
Loyalty Dumbledore's Army
Film portrayer Luke Youngblood
First appearance Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

Lee Jordan is a close friend of Fred and George Weasley and the commentator for Quidditch matches. Lee's commentary is biased towards Gryffindor. For example, he cannot avoid pointing out in his commentary that Angelina Johnson is an excellent Chaser and "rather attractive, too." or that Slytherins cheat often in his commentary (both likely true, however). When he does this, Professor McGonagall often tries to set him straight.

Lee is played in the films by Luke Youngblood . Interestingly, Lee's commentary is not biased in the films.

Dai Llewellyn

"Dangerous" Dai Llewellyn is a fictional character from the Harry Potter book series written by J.K. Rowling. Dai Llewellyn was the most famous player on the Welsh Quidditch team the Caerphilly Catapults. Llewellyn was eaten by a Chimaera while on holiday in Mykonos, Greece, and resulted in a day of national mourning for all Welsh witches and wizards.

The Dangerous Dai Commemorative Medal is now awarded at the end of each season to the League player who has taken the most exciting and foolhardy risks during a game and the "Dangerous" Dai Llewellyn Ward for serious bites is located on level one of St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries.
