Andenes is a small town in the the municipality Andøy in the county of Nordland, Norway, and had 5,549 inhabitants as of January 1, 2002.
History
The town of Andenes has been an important fishing village since the iron age, and today it is the starting point of whale safaris to see the sperm whales off the island that migrate here in the Summer.
Position
The city lies 300 km north of the Arctic Circle and the midnight sun is visible from May 19 to July 25. The sun is below the horizon from November 25 to January 28.
Media, culture and entertainment
The local newspaper is named Andøyposten .
Hosts the annual "Rock mot Rus" (Rock against drugs) festival, where young people perform their own rock music.
