Benjamin Alvord

Benjamin Alvord (Rutland VT , August 18, 1813 - Washington DC, October 16, 1884) was an American mathematician and botanist. He graduated from the United States Military Academy (Class of 1833), and served in the Union Army during the Civil War, rising to the rank of (Brevet) Brigadier General. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
