Big spin is an aerial skateboarding trick where the skateboard makes a 360 shove-it while at the same time the skateboarder makes a body varial to the same direction.
A "perfect" big spin, even though it is very rarely done, would be to do a shove-it, catch the board midair and then rotate the remaining of the 180 degrees with the board following the skateboarder's body.
The trick was named after the inventor Brian Lotti by another skater Sal Barbier . He thought that since the trick involves spinning and 'Lotti' sounds like 'lottery' it would be appropriate to name the trick after a Californian scratch ticket.
A big spin can also be performed into other aerials like nollie or fakie ollie. A backside big spin done into a 360 flip is a big spin flip. When it is done frontside it has to be made into a heel flip and becomes a big spin heel flip.
