Birds Australia

Birds Australia was previously known as the Royal Australasian Ornithologists Union until a change of name in 1996. It was founded in 1901 to promote the study and conservation of the native bird species of Australia, making it the oldest national birding association of that country. It has joined the BirdLife International partnership of bird and habitat conservations groups.

Birds Australia operates reserves at Gluepot and Newhaven Station . It publishes a quarterly magazine, Wingspan, for its members, as well as the ornithological journal Emu, now over 100 years old, which concentrates on the birdlife of the Southern Hemisphere, particularly Australia and Antarctica.
