Bo Yang (柏楊, born 1920) is a Mainlander-born writer based in Taiwan.
Born Guo Libang (郭立邦) in Kaifeng, Henan Province*, he later changed his name to Guo Yidong (衣洞). He moved to Taiwan in 1949. He started using the penname Boyang in 1960 to write essays. He was imprisoned in Green Island for nine years because of his criticism of Chiang Kai-shek and in particular a translation of a comic strip of Popeye. In the strip, Popeye is in a boat at sea, holding Sweet Pea. Pointing toward an island in the distance, he says: "I will be king of that island and you will be my prince."
During his imprisonment, he wrote a book on Chinese history.
He lives in Taipei.
Some accounts say his birthplace is Hui County (輝縣).
