Plot

Jackie Mason plays the role of Jack Hartounian, a self-made man who loves pickled herring, and Dan Aykroyd plays the role of Captain Tom Everett, a soldier of fortune with zapped testicles. It also stars Robert Stack, Dyan Cannon, Jonathan Silverman and Jessica Lundy .

Analysis

The movie made USD$11 million compared to the original's USD$39 million gross at the box office.

The character of Peter Blunt, played by Randy Quaid, is widely regarded as one of the stupidest characters in the history of motion pictures. Blunt spends the greater part of the film ambling about and shouting in the faces of the other characters. This sheer brilliance managed to score Quaid a Worst Supporting Actor nomination, which he probably would have won had it not been for Rene Auberjonois' jaw-dropping performance in Police Academy 5: Assignment Miami Beach.

Trivia

Chevy Chase, who reprises the role of Ty Webb, was rumored to have murmured to the film's director Allan Arkush during post-production, "Call me when you've dubbed the laugh-track," before walking away in disgust.

Arkush, who also directed Rock 'n' Roll High School in 1979, begged Rodney Dangerfield to come in and save the script at the last minute. Upon reading it, Dangerfield asked, "What's with the ferris wheel?" and dropped it in the wastebasket.
