Sinwa Holdings Limited
In the year 1948, when Sri Lanka (Ceylon) obtained independence, a young and dynamic entrepreneur conceived the idea of setting up an industry to manufacture footwear - and in the year 1950, Ceylon Malayan Rubber Goods Limited (the parent company of the Sinwa Group) was born.
Sinwa's founder Mohamed Abdul Cader Mukthar a gentleman of high ethics, integrity and courage embarked on a journey to build the first Sri Lankan venture to build rubber-based footwear, with assistance from Malaysia. During this period, most businessmen considered it more prudent to stay within the traditional spheres of enterprise such as agriculture, real estate and trading.
A very few enterprising individuals had the courage to set up industrial ventures to seek new markets and new prospects and the original manufacturing facility was set up in Dehiwela, south of Colombo, with a modest staff of twenty-five.
In the early 1960’s Sinwa diversified into various other fields of manufacture. One of the major breakthroughs was the formation of a fully automated Industrial adhesive plant. Once again, Sinwa was the first to manufacture adhesives in Sri Lanka. Today the adhesives, under the brand name of Multibond, is firmly established and acknowledged, as the market leader in its field.
To facilitate the growing business, and accommodate the corporate head office, a state of the art footwear factory and office complex was built adjoining the original factory in 1976. The rubber products factory was also expanded with modern machinery during this period.
In 1995, Sinwa restructured and renamed the original business as Sinwa Holdings Limited.
Sinwa is rapidly pacing through the new millennium, while constantly changing to meet new challenges and grasp every opportunity coming their way. Apart from the product range Sinwa manufacture, they are proud to be associated with multinational brands such as 3M, Evo-Stick, Leyland and OKS offering adhesives, construction chemicals, tapes, packaging systems, paints and specialty lubricants to the Sri Lankan market.
As much as Sinwa has diversified into industrial intermediaries, it has also forward-integrated, by entering into the fashion retail business. Sinwa offers the latest trends in ladies and gents shoes, accessories and foot-care products, and are successfully carving out a niche in the high fashion segment of the market, attracting the most fashion conscious to their retail stores.
With the dawn of the twenty-first century, Sinwa is ready to meet all challenges, large and small, as well as continue to enhance the values achieved in its history of fifty years, by pursuing their vision and enhancing their services. Sinwa takes great pride in its diverse product range, the number of established brands and the large distribution network , retail outlets, offices, staff spread throughout the country and the growth it has achieved
