Champawat

Champawat is one of the 6 districts of Kumaon. Champwat is believed to the place where the Turtle incarnation of Lord Vishnu - The Kurmavtar took place.

Champwat has a glorious historical past. Once been the capital of Chand Rulers , Champawat is also famous for its splendid scenic beauty. The Baleshwar Temple built by the Chand Rulers in Sixteenth century is an excellent monument with marvelous stone carving works.
