Commelinaceae, or the spiderwort family, is a plant family consisting of about 650 species of herbs in 40 genera. Members of the family are widespread throughout tropical and temperate zones.
The stems of the family are generally well-developed, and often swollen at the nodes. Flowers are short-lived, lasting for a day or less.
