Creature House Expression is a vector graphics editor that was developed by Creature House, which was later acquired by Microsoft. It will likely be the basis for "Sparkle", Microsoft's next-generation vector graphics software. Since June 2004, Expression 3.3 is available as a free download [1] from Microsoft (registration required). Both Windows & Mac OS X versions are available. The download version also comes with a 200-page PDF manual for new users to get to know the program.
Skeletal stroke
Expression has made use of a unique technology called skeletal stroke . Here is a simple illustration. There are a few research papers on this technology among the ACM archive, including the work of Alex S. C. Hsu and Irene H. H. Lee[2], who are the original developers of Expression. Check out the ACM library portal, enter 'skeletal stroke' in the search input box to find out more.
Inkscape Wiki also has a section on Expression with brief discsussion on skeletal stroke.
