David Murray Anderson

Sir David Murray Anderson (1874-1936) was born in England and served as a naval officer rising to admiral in 1931 before retiring from the Royal Navy. In 1933 he was appointed governor of Newfoundland and became chairman of the Commission of Government that ruled the colony with the suspension of responsible government. The Commission was involved with restructuring public services, government, social services and tried to solve Newfoundland's economic problems. Anderson's term ended in 1935 and he moved on to become governor of New South Wales in Australia but died after being in office for less than a year.
