Duke Power, headquartered in Charlotte, NC, is an electrical power company with more than 2 million customers in North and South Carolina. The company operates nuclear power plants, coal-fired plants, conventional hydro plants, natural-gas turbines to handle peak demand, and pumped hydro storage.

Duke Power constructed Lake Norman, north of Charlotte, NC, to aid its hydro- and nuclear electrical production capabilities.
