ECW One Night Stand

ECW One Night Stand is an upcoming professional wrestling pay-per-view event to be promoted by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). The matches at this event will feature former wrestlers from the defunct Extreme Championship Wrestling promotion (ECW), whose holdings were purchased in bankruptcy court by WWE. Former ECW/WWE wrestler Tommy Dreamer is the primary organizer of this show.

History

After WWE acquired Extreme Championship Wrestling and World Championship Wrestling (WCW), many stars of ECW and WCW started wrestling for other professional wrestling promotions such as Total Nonstop Action (TNA). For the first time since the WWE Invasion pay-per-view event in 2001, WWE has organized a show featuring ECW wrestlers: ECW One Night Stand. It has been predicted by various media outlets that the event will be taking place in New York City on June 12, 2005 at the Hammerstein Ballroom . [1]

A similar event, called "Hardcore Homecoming" is being organized by former ECW World Heavyweight Champion Shane Douglas (who currently works for TNA). Although the event has reportedly been promoted as an ECW reunion show, the event will not officially be promoted under the ECW name since WWE owns the rights to the brand name.
