ELion

eLion is the account management system at Pennsylvania State University.

With the IT era prospering at university environments, The Pennsylvania State University decided that they were to implement numerous software packages to help students and staff alike. With the hassle of lengthy lines and long waits at the registrar, Penn State felt that they could use an IT system to assuage this problem. PSU decided to implement eLion, an account management system that gives great benefit to not only the students, but to everyone who is affiliated with Penn State. eLion has many features for students and administrations that allow them to handle their classroom management issues. At first glance, eLion may be considered a course registration tool, but there are many functions to it which each play a key role in its development.

Student features

For students eLion carries many advantages. First, it allows one to schedule a class at your computer. Long lines at the registrar or trying to call someone to get a class changed are outdated. Users can look at a class schedule online then enter the registration number to schedule a class. Aside from scheduling classes, students can view many other aspects of their account using this tool. Tracking your bursar account is also extremely easy from eLion. Students can look at their current account balance and see when payments have arrived and when they were received. Outstanding balances and refunds can be addressed immediately rather than correspondence by mail. Students can also track their progress to graduation. Degree audits are easily obtained through eLion as is filing your intent to graduate. All graduation requirements are updated in a real time environment, so each student knows exactly where they stand within their current course load. Lastly, students have access to real-time grades and transcripts. Students can get their grades from every semester they were in college as well as copies of their unofficial transcript. Students can easily see their current GPA and even predict their future GPAs too. eLion also has features that include:

Professor features

eLion is just not a tool for students, but professors as well. Professors can sit down and enter their grades manually right at their computer in their office. Scantrons and other inefficient sheets are not needed with eLion. Mistakes are also easy to fix with the system. Faculty can simply change the grades at any time without calling or notifying anyone at all. Furthermore, faculty members can review grades for their entire class at the click of a button. No more waiting to receive results from bubble sheets; the information is now right at their fingertips. Professors can also:

Advisor features

The eLion system plays a key role for advisors. Trying to get information about their students used to be a daunting task for advisors. Now they have easy access to their students records. This allows for great one-on-one access and instant feedback about academic matters. Advisors can also track academic progress and be notified immediately if students are falling behind or not taking proper course loads. Incomplete degree requirements with the degree audit feature can be viewed. With these features, advisors can spend more time advising and less time looking up records.
