ENQUIRE

ENQUIRE was an early project (circa 1980) of Tim Berners-Lee, who went on to create the World Wide Web a decade later. ENQUIRE has some of the same ideas as the Web and the Semantic Web but is different in several important ways, one of them that it was not supposed to be released to the general public. The name is short for Enquire Within Upon Everything, the name of a famous Victorian self-help book that Berners-Lee had enjoyed in his youth. Berners-Lee later used ENQUIRE as the conceptual basis for the World Wide Web.
