Eintracht Frankfurt

Eintracht (meaning United) is the biggest and most successful football (soccer) club team in Frankfurt and the Rhein-Main-Area. It has traditionally played in the top German football league or thereabouts. A founding member of the Bundesliga, they suffered relegation from the top division for the first time since league reconstruction in 1997, and since then they have jumped between the Bundesliga and the Second Bundesliga. The first team aside, the club also runs an amateur team and several youth teams in various levels of the German football league system.

Eintracht famously played in what is known as the greatest European Cup final of all time, losing 7-3 against Real Madrid in 1959, following a run of shock results to meet the champions of Spain in the final at Hampden Park, Glasgow.

Eintracht won a pre-Bundesliga German championship in 1959.

After the relegation last year, Frankfurt is playing in the Second Bundesliga, but hopes to become a constant member of the First Bundesliga again in the long run.
