Elevation

Elevation has several related meanings:

• In Geography, the elevation of a geographic location is its height above mean sea level.

• In drafting, an elevation is a two-dimensional orthographic projection of a structure. Exterior front and side elevations are typically part of architectural drawings of buildings. Interior designers also use elevations in their work.

• In ballistics, the elevation is the angle between the horizontal plane and the direction of the barrel of a gun, mortar or heavy artillery.

• Originally, elevation was a linear measure of how high the gunners had to physically lift the muzzle of a gun up from the gun carriage to hit targets at a certain distance.

• The elevation can also refer to the elevation used for satellite communication.

• In music, "Elevation" is a track on Television's 1977 album Marquee Moon, and another on U2's 2000 release All That You Can't Leave Behind.
