Enercon GmbH

Friesian Enercon GmbH is a company based in Germany that operates in the wind turbine industry.

It is leading on the German wind power market and is one of the biggest producers in the world.

An important feature of their wind turbines is that they do not use a gearbox. Most wind turbines use a gearbox to increase the speed of rotation of an axis, while Enercon GmbH's turbines use annular generators .

Their biggest model is (in Feb. 2005) the E-112, rated at 4.5 MW and with a rotor diameter of about 113 m. From August 2002 to December 2004 it was the biggest wind turbine in the world.

Enercon GmbH has production facilities in Germany, Sweden, Brazil, India and Turkey

They had 7,831 installed wind turbines as of April 2005, good for 7.2 GW of power production.
