Epidural hematoma

Epidural hematoma is usually caused by the rupture of the middle meningeal artery. The cause is usaully traumatic, although spontaneous hemorrhage is known to occur. There is blood accumulation between the dura mater and the inner skull.

Therapy is by neurosurgically evacuating the hematoma through a burr hole or craniotomy.
