Etruria Works

The Etruria Works was a porcelain factory opened by Josiah Wedgwood in England during June, 1769. It took almost two years to complete this factory because the land was officially bought in the year 1767.

Wedgwood paid about three thousand pounds for this land, a land known as the Ridgehouse Estate. He was very proud of owning this property because it lay directly in the path of the Trent and Mersey Canal. The motto of the factory (a motto that was encouraged by Josiah), was Artes Etruriae Renascuntur. This may be translated from the Italian language meaning "The Arts of Etruria Reborn". The works of this factory were greatly appreciated and admired by the people during the 18th Century.
