Everclear (alcohol)

Everclear is a brand of grain alcohol, available at concentrations of 95% (190 proof ) and 75.5% (151 proof). It is illegal to purchase the 190 proof version in many US states such as Pennsylvania, Washington, Oregon, or California. By contrast, normal hard liquors such as rum and vodka contain only 40% alcohol (80 proof). Everclear is usually mixed into an alcoholic beverage; straight consumption of Everclear can be lethal. It is often drunk at college parties mixed with fruit juice or Kool-aid (usually grape) and mixed fruit in a large tub and called variously jungle juice, purple jesus , or wop. Mixed with ice tea powder, it is called batch. It can be lethal when used as shots.
