Feller buncher

(Redirected from Feller-buncher)

A feller buncher is a large logging machine similar to a excavator with an attachment that cuts trees in place of a shovel. It consists of a standard heavy equipment base with a tree grabbing device equipped with a saw or other device at the bottom that cuts the tree off at the base and places it on the stack of cut trees.

There are also wheeled feller bunchers with no backhoe. Instead this type of vehicle drives close and grab the tree.

Additional features include a type of holder that strips branches off the tree and measures trees for specific lengths, cutting the tree at the specific point.

In cut-to-length logging a harvester performs the tasks of a feller buncher additionally doing the delimbing and bucking of the trees as well.
