Fernando "Cobo" Pereira is a major in the military of São Tomé and Príncipe. He led a coup against the elected government of Fradique de Menezes on July 16, 2003, but relinquished power on July 23 as part of an agreement.
Fernando Pereira was also a photographer and Greenpeace activist. He died when French intelligence (DGSE) blew up the ship Rainbow Warrior on July 10, 1985. The Rainbow Warrior had been used to lead a flotilla of yachts protesting against French nuclear testing at Mururoa Atoll in the Tuamotu Archipelago of French Polynesia.
