Fishstick

Fishsticks or fish fingers are a processed food usually made using white fish such as cod (although with cod quotas, alternatives are now popular). Common in Western supermarkets in the frozen food section, fishsticks are normally smallish-sized fingers of reconstituted fish which have been battered or breaded.

Varieties include different types of fish, such as haddock or sole; flavouring in the breading, perhaps peppercorn, garlic or lemon; and specially-shaped 'sticks', to appeal to younger diners.

One can also purchase 'premium' range fish fingers, containing 'real fish' – i.e. cuts of fish meat, not just reconstituted fish.

Prominent brands in the U.S. include Gorton's and Van de Kamp's. They are extremely cheap and are most likely made with low production cost.

Fishsticks are not a particularly glamorous food (thus, they are not usually served to company or offered in fine restaurants), but are considered quick and convenient. Their bland flavor and easy preparation make them especially suitable for serving to children, as for instance when the adults of a household are eating at some other time or place.
