Gala

Gala has several meanings

1. A public celebration or Carnival, especially in the north of England - such as the Durham Miner's Gala . Also applied to amateur swimming competitions - Swimming gala .

2. A variety of eating apple grown particularly in New Zealand

3. Gala Rizzatto - an Italian singer/song writer who had a hit song in 1997 with "freed from desire", which was a huge hit across the world and reached number 2 in the UK singles chart. Gala's follow up singles.."come into my life" & "let a boys cry" did not make the same impact on the charts as her first single. An album in 1998 called "come into my life" did not perform as well in the album charts and the record company "Big Life" did not renew Gala's contract.

4. Gala R.F.C. is a Scottish rugby club in Galashiels.
