Girnar

Girnar, a scenic mountain range in Gujarat, India, rises to above 6000 meters, the highest peaks in Gujarat. The five peaks of Girnar are blessed by 16 carved and sculptured marble shrines. Girnar is also a pilgrimage place for the Jains. In the Hindu religion, the legend is that climbing Girnar barefooted earns one a place in Heaven.

These mountains also serves as sanctuary for the last remaining Asian lions, famous for their dark black manes.

Its also famous for the Kathiawadi culture in the adjacent region. It is in the Junagadh district of Gujarat. The nearest city is Junagadh.

  • Sasan Gir Forest & Sanctuary - This 500 sq. mile sanctuary is dry, open scrubland where the lions roam freely. They can be seen on guided jeep tours through the jungles
