Herstmonceux

Herstmonceux is a village in the county of East Sussex in the South East of England. The village is most famous for its castle built in 1441 and still in good condition today. The castle is currently owned by Queen's University at Kingston.

In the past it was owned by The Royal Greenwich Observatory and housed several large telescopes, this part of the grounds remains a science discovery park. There is an annual medieval festival to celebrate the history of the castle.

The village is also famous for trugs. These are baskets made from willow boards set in an ash or chestnut frame.
