Indian Academy of Pediatrics

The Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) was established in 1964 by the Indian Pediatric Society and the Association of Pediatricians of India with the intention to form a single organization to represent the pediatricians of India. They are affiliated with the International Pediatrics Association , the Association of Pediatric Societies of the Southeast Asian Region , the Asian Society of Infectious Diseases , and the International Society of Tropical Pediatrics .

The Indian Academy of Pediatrics has a membership of more than 13,000 registered members from all over the country. One of the major activities of the IAP is organizing Continuing Medical Education Programs for its members by conducting conferences, seminars and symposia all over the country. The IAP has branches at the state and the district level and these branches promote scientific knowledge among its members by conducting lectures and seminars every month. All these branches come under the umbrella of the central IAP which has its head office at Mumbai (formerly Bombay). Apart from educating the members, the Academy also functions as an advisory body to the Government in matters relating to the health and immunization policies for children.
