Indiana Jones Adventure

Indiana Jones Adventure: The Temple of the Forbidden Eye and Indiana Jones Adventure: The Temple of the Crystal Skull are attractions at Disneyland and Tokyo Disneysea, respectively. It opened at Disneyland on March 3, 1995. Based on the Indiana Jones films, guests are taken on an adventure in World War II era troop transports through a lost temple with Indiana Jones.

Story

At the Disneyland attraction, guests play the role of tourists in 1935, who visit the Temple of the Forbidden Eye, which is supposedly located somewhere in India. After leaving the station, the troop transport takes the guests into a room called the Chamber of Destiny. There are three doors, any of which the troop transport will randomly enter. After going through the door, guests see the large face of evil Emperor Mara, and then swerve to the left to avoid him. The troop transport is now in a large purple tunnel with cobra statues on the walls. We then see a struggling Audio-Animatronic Indiana Jones, who says, "Tourists?! There's powers here you can't possibly comprehend. Go left, it's the ONLY way out," as he points to a dark tunnel to the left. When emerging from the dark tunnel, we see a transport crossing shoddy bridge directly ahead, but the troop transport turns left and enters yet another tunnel, decorated with skulls and skeletons. The transport then takes the guests across a shaky bridge, one of the highlights of the attraction. After crossing the bridge, the transport turns right, and then left into a tunnel, where we see the body of a large cobra. At the end of the tunnel, the transport stops, and the snake hovers around for a second or two before attacking the transport, but fortunately, the guests escape in the nick of time. The guests are then taken into a tunnel, where we see warrior skeletons painted on the walls, but supposedly, they are firing arrows at the guests, and they narrowly escape. The guests are now in a dark room where we look up and see Indiana hanging onto a rope saying, "Back up. Back up! Let me in," but then we see a huge boulder barreling toward us, and we are nearly crushed before escaping. After going through one last dark tunnel, we see Indy, tired and sweaty, standing in front of a crushed boulder, but catches his breath and says, "Not bad... for tourists" or similar phrases. The transports then arrive back at the station.

Fun Facts

  • At the Disneyland attraction, Mara says, "Foolish mortals!" This is a reference to the Haunted Mansion, one of Disneyland's most popular attractions.
  • The 2.5 ton Mercedes-Benz troop transport truck parked in the outside queue at Disneyland's version is the actual vehicle used in the famous desert chase scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark.
