István Szabó

István Szabó is a film director, screenwriter and occasional actor born in Budapest, Hungary, on 18 February 1938. He has made more than 30 films in several languages, including Sunshine (1999); Meeting Venus (1991); Colonel Redl (1985) and Mephisto (1981), which won the Academy Award for the Best Foreign Language Film. The latter films were the product of his collaboration with the actor Klaus Maria Brandauer. His latest film is Being Julia (2004).
