Jason King (television)

Jason King' was a TV series which had 26 episodes broadcast in the UK in 1971 and 1972.

Novelist and Investigator

Jason King was a typical product of late 1960s/early 70s televison. Featuring the adventures of the eponymous character who had first appeared in Department S . Jason King was created by Dennis Spooner and made by Lew Grade's ITC Entertainment , which later became part of ATV, which had become successful with The Saint series.

The format was straightfoward. Over 26 episodes King, portrayed by the smooth Peter Wyngarde, would manage to become embroiled in a 50 minute adventure which took in glamourous women, exotic locations (for the era) and menacing villains. Many episodes would play on the fact that King, when not fighting bad guys and seducing continental beauties, was the author of a type of fiction that might be adapted for an adventure TV series.

King's choice of fashion and poor dental state have been revealed by Mike_Myers_(actor) to have been an inspiration for his popular movie character Austin Powers.
