Jerrold Nadler

Jerrold Lewis Nadler (born June 13, 1947) is a politician from the U.S. state of New York.

Nadler was born in Brooklyn, New York and graduated from Stuyvesant High School in 1965, where his successful campaign for class president was managed by Dick Morris. He later attended and graduating from Columbia University. He worked for Eugene McCarthy's presidential campaign in 1968, and was elected to the New York general assembly in 1976. In 1992, Ted Weiss , the incumbent Congressman for New York's 8th Congressional district was expected to run for reelection; however, Weiss died a day before the primary election. Nadler was nominated by convention to replace Weiss. He was elected easily to the House of Representatives that November and has been re-elected with little serious competition.

Nadler has one of the most liberal voting records in the House. His district includes the site where the World Trade Centers stood and downtown Manhattan as well as the neighborhoods of Chelsea and Greenwich Village. The 8th Congressional district (map) also consisted of parts of Brooklyn such as Coney Island, Bensonhurst, and Bay Ridge. After the September 11, 2001 attacks, Congressman Nadler helped to pass bills helping the families of those killed and small businesses that were harmed due to the attacks. Nadler opposed both the USA PATRIOT Act and the War in Iraq. Nadler also had gastric bypass surgery in 2002, helping him lose sixty pounds.
