John Adam

John Adam (1779 - 1825) was a British administrator in India. He served as the acting governor-general of the British East India Company in 1823.

John Adam was also the name given by Islamic militants of a United States soldier that they claimed to have captured. A statement signed by the "Mujahedeen Brigades " claiming that they had captured "American military man John Adam" was posted on a Web site used by Islamic militants in January, 2005, with a photo purporting to be Adam sitting with his hands tied behind his back with a rifle pointed at him.

The U.S. military stated that no soldiers have been reported missing in Iraq, and a spokesperson for American toy manufacturer Dragon Models USA, Inc. stated that the figure in the photo actually appears to be one of the "Special Forces Cody" action figures they manufacture, and the rifle pointed at "Adam" one of the accessories that comes with the toy.
