Joseph Gibson Hoyt

Joseph Gibson Hoyt (January 19, 1815 - November 26, 1862), was the chancellor and professor of Greek at Washington University, St. Louis from 1858-1862. An educator, born in Dumbarton, New Hampshire, he died in St. Louis, Missouri. He graduated from Yale in 1840, was instructor in mathematics and natural philosophy in Phillips Exeter academy in 1840-1858. Was a member of Yale's Skull and Bones, and co-founder of Washington University's oldest secret society.
