Khanbaliq

Khanbaliq or Cambuluc ("great residence of the khan") is the ancient Mongol name for Beijing, the current capital of China. As the capital city of the Mongolian Empire under Kublai Khan, it was founded during the Yuan Dynasty. It was known in Chinese as Dadu (大都). It was later rebuilt by the Ming and renamed Beijing. Marco Polo stayed in the city in the late 1200s. Remains of parts of the ancient walls, which lie slightly to the north of the later Ming walls, are still extant in modern-day Beijing and are known as Tucheng (土城 'earth wall').
