Lützen, Germany

Lützen is a town in the district of Weißenfels in the Saxony-Anhalt region of Germany. It has a population of roughly 6000 and is the seat of Verwaltungsgemeinschaft Lützen which include the municipalities of:

  • Großgörschen
  • Lützena
  • Poserna
  • Rippach
  • Röcken
  • Sössen
  • Starsiedel

The town was the scene of two famous battles. In the first, Gustavus II defeated Albrecht von Wallenstein in 1632 during the Thirty Years' War, and in the other, in 1813 Napoleon defeated combined Russian and Prussian forces in nearby Großgörschen, in the Napoleonic Wars.
