Móstoles

Móstoles is a city belonging to the metropolitan area of Madrid, Spain. According to the 2003 census, Móstoles has a total population of 201,789 inhabitants, ranking as the second most populous city in the province of Madrid. It has an area of 45 km2. The economy of the city is based on the metal industry and construction, as well as agriculture and cattle.

The city became famous on May 2nd, 1808, when its mayor Andrés Torrejón declared war on France, starting thus the War of Spanish Independence .

Some of the most important monuments in Móstoles are the Catholic Mudejar-styled church of La Asunción, the Baroque hermitage of La Virgen de los Santos (from the 17th century) and the Monument To The Mayor, located in Pradillo Square.
