Maurício de Sousa (born October 7, 1936) is a Brazilian comic book artist.
At 17 years of age, he worked for a daily newspaper called Folha de São Paulo as a crime reporter. In 1959 Sousa quit that job and began his comic book career.
Sousa created Turma da Mônica, known in English as Monica's Gang. Sousa's characters were inspired by children he knew from his childhood. Sousa is now Brazil's most famous comic book artist.
