Mendoza Province


Mendoza is one of the 23 provinces of Argentina, located in the western central part of the country. The capital is Mendoza. The province has a population of 1,579,651 (2001), and covers an area of 148,827 km². Neighboring provinces are from the north clockwise San Juan, San Luis, La Pampa, Río Negro and Neuquén. To the west is Chile.

Mendoza province is primarily agricultural and is the largest of several wine producing regions in Argentina. A renowned harvest festival (Fiesta de la Vendimia) is held each year in late February or early March.

The province is divided into 18 departments (Spanish: departamentos).
